We spent the morning on an excellent walking tour (thanks Verity), led by a young english history grad who really knew his German history.  He was very enthusiastic about his subject and determined his audience should understand the controversial Memorial to the Murdered Jews and the concepts involved in the Wall.  Stimulating stuff!

After a quick look round the Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Fair we took time out in a mall on Friedrickstrasseimageimage to warm up and have a soup. It was not really cold outside but the wind began to chill the bones after 3 hoirs walking all around Mitte district.

The town centre is strangely quiet away from the shopping streets and it certainly is a sprawling city.  Construction is everywhere as Berlin is still reconstructing after reunification.

in the evening we explored Potsdamplatz market.  It is very atmospheric with huge light displays in the streets and ajoining mall.  I bought a few “typische” tree decs but most are very costly.

On our way back we saw a fox, right in the middle of the P.platz and watched it, hearts in mouths, as it expertly crossed the dual carriageway!

Will add more pix tomorrow
